Scott returned to northern Thailand for all of February and March, to study Thai language and volunteer at Heifer International. Kathy returned to Florida, also escaping Winter, but without having to fly for 24 hours to do it. Sometimes it takes as little as 12 hours! In Mid-March Kathy joined Scott in Thailand, where they stayed until mid-April.
Baldwin Beckons
We headed for Kathy's hometown (Grand Rapids, MI) and a quiet, secluded spot about an hour north of there. It's not exciting... but it's not a place to look for excitement.
Two of the nicest people we know got married in June. We went to Texas for their en-hitchment. We drove to Texas (yes, we are crazy), taking the Southern route (Alabama, Louisiana) down, and the Northern route (Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Ontario...) back.
Our route is here - but beware, the file is about 150K in size.
Sleeping in Seattle
Kathy worked a couple of weeks on the Left Coast during June. We got together in Portland, OR and saw my brother & sis-in-law there. Photos etc. at here
Tagliatelli in Tuscany
Ok the alliteration is getting a bit annoying? Don't worry, the year's coming to an end anyway. We spent a week with our diving friends (same bunch) in Italy
Our original plan was to make the annual summer pilgrimage to Florida, for the SCUBA lobstering season. However, we've bought a new home, and suspect our summer lobster will be coming from the supermarket, rather than the canal in back of Kathy's folks' house. We closed on July 30th, and moved in October.
September brought our annual dive trip with "the group".
Airfares and other complications made it too much hassle to return to Thailand this Fall. Instead, Kathy found a 2 week cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Santiago, Chile. We'll spent a couple of days at each end, totaling 3 weeks.
Kathy, who can never get too much excitement in her life, re-visited Baldwin, MI where her brother lives. Amazing.
Scott headed west to San Francisco for a few days.
Christmas until day after New Year's was also in a warm spot, South Florida with Kathy's folks.

August: Westford. Hudson. Westford. Hudson. Westford. A truly moving experience.
Jan-April: Scott in Northern Thailand
Late September sometime: What a party. What a hangover. Long time friends of ours held a sort of wedding reception in our honor, just with local friends. In lieu of gifts we solicited contributions for Heifer International. They totaled enough to purchase of 3 water buffalo!.You can support Heifer International at http://catalog.heifer.org. You can see what the heck we're talking about, there, too.
May 8, 2002: We eloped to Tobago.
April 2002: Scott's planned 2 months (Feb 02-April 02) in Northern Thailand turned into almost three. He really enjoyed Chiang Mai, and the charity where he was "working" (volunteering) - and they seemed pretty pleased with Scott too. Kathy came to Thailand and immediate set to "work" as well. Together we had an even more wonderful time.
