Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

This was our last port in Mexico. It has an upscale, "resorty" feel about it; neither good nor bad. When I (Scott) encounter a place like Cabo I think "Disneyland": a world that is not at all what it appears, where, "behind the scenes" everything is not clean and wonderful, but hey, you're here to escape reality, not ponder it. Cabo San Lucas is at the very base of the Mexican state of Baja California, head south from Tijuana 'till you run out of land. There's not much in between the two ends, except desert.

Scott had yet more SCUBA dives in this port. The other dives were by-and-large miserable, but these two were rather fun. I went on the first dive with a "nice young man" (20) from our ship (Craig). Water was quite chilly (a bit under 70f) but scenes were interesting and diverse. On the second dive it was just the divemaster and it was a blast. We started out in a narrow channel with a strong current, while sea lions dive-bombed us (they were playing), then moved on to octopus, eels, porcupine fish -- quite the array. This was all fast-paced and it was clear the divemaster was enjoying the ride; Scott did too.

Meanwhile, on shore Kathy had a great tour with a Naturalist, doing some hiking and bird-watching. She enjoyed that tour as well and can recommend it for other visitors.

"Pedregal" -- suppose it means "Hollywood" Spanish? Or maybe "Yuppies here" Pirate ships? No, "booze cruises" First and foremost a fishing village... "The Rocks" -- "been there, done that".
